House Passes Energy Bill!

Business, Trucking and Workers to Pay the Freight

June 26, 2009. Kansas City

Tonight, while working Americans were going out to dinner in Denver, heading for the BBQ contest in Lenexa, and strolling on the beach in Pensacola, The House of Representatives passed the American Clean Energy & Security Act by a vote of 219 to 212. If the Republicans had stood their ground, the bill would have failed. Enough Republicans rolled over to pass the bill.

The climate change bill, a legislative priority of Pres. Obama's, centers on a renewable electricity standard and a cap-and-trade policy aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, higher energy taxes are expected to double the cost of fuel, emissions, how houses are built, financed, and improved. California building codes, fuel, and energy policy is now being forced on the rest of the country. Watching the votes being cast, this reporter wondered if this was the end of the American Way as one Republican vote was cast after the next for the bill, and was reminded of a song:

"Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

So bye-bye, miss American pie.

The consequences of the vote below. Perhaps we should have spent the day lobbying the House for America, Americans, and our Constitution. Many of the provisions are direct violations of the Constitution giving unelected officials regulatory power over us without elected official oversight, or citizen oversight of them. America has now instituted Taxation Without Representation. The Patriots of 1776 had it right, no representation, no tax. While you were out this evening, the House took America away from you.

Trucking and Shipping Companies Beware. Crops are rotting in California, unpicked and unshipped due to government regulation over fuel, trucking vehicles/trailers, water, and excessive regulation. Once fuel costs and emission regulations are levied on Shipping and Trucking, a transportation crisis will be declared. Rates will once again be posted with "Common Carrier Authority." This will end competition, logistics and small trucking companies. The bill will drive the few manufacturers and industries in the United States to countries that will not bow to the mandated Presidential policies to punish foreign countries if they do not meet U.S. emission standards.

Homeowners Beware. The House bill, as passed will drive up home heating, gasoline, diesel, electricity, natural gas, coal, and all carbon energy sources. Great news for the poor, the government will pay for the increase. For the rest of us, all energy bills are expected to double. To refinance your house, there will be mandatory emission studies, and improvements will have to reduce emissions and increase efficiency, or you will not get the loan from Freddie and Fanny.

Homebuyers Beware.  Trying to save up for a new home?  Homebuyers may have to save up a little longer for your purchase.  The Democrats’ bill passed on June 26, 2009 will dramatically increase new home costs by mandating California’s expensive new building codes for the entire nation.  Immediately upon enactment, the Democrats’ bill demands a 30 percent increase in energy efficiency for new construction.  The Democrats’ bill would require an additional 50 percent improvement.

Home Sellers Beware.  Selling your home?  The Democrat bill mandates all homes sales are conditioned upon an energy audit and a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program for your home. Your home will be subjected to a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program that will penalize you for older windows, original fixtures, and dated appliances.  Today, the Democrats’ bill brought down the value of your home!

While you were out. House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH),one America's rare politicians to standup against the Socialization of America, strongly opposed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) national energy tax and the impact it would have on middle-class families and small businesses across the country.  Boehner earlier spoke on the House floor in a marathon, hour-long speech in which he read portions of the legislation to underscore its real consequences for American jobs and the economy.  Following is Boehner’s statement on the legislation:

“Today, in what will be remembered as the defining vote of the 111th Congress, House Democrats passed a 1,500-page national energy tax bill that no one even had the chance to read.  The American people have the right to know what is in this legislation and, more importantly, what impact it will have on middle-class families and small businesses.  In just an hour, we raised serious questions about the true consequences of this legislation for Americans’ jobs and all of our economy.

“Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax is a bureaucratic nightmare that will cost families more than ever for electricity, gasoline, food, and other products, and cost millions of American workers their jobs.  This is a tax on anyone who drives a car, buys an American-made product, or flips on a light switch.  It will drive up energy costs, send millions of jobs overseas to countries like China and India, and place an especially heavy burden on rural America.  Republicans believe there is a better way.  Our American Energy Act is the fastest route to a cleaner, more reliable energy future.  By increasing environmentally-safe energy production, promoting alternatives like nuclear and clean-coal technologies, and encouraging increased efficiency, this alternative legislation will create more jobs, lower energy costs, and clean up our air and water.

“There’s a big difference between the heartland and San Francisco when it comes to Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax.  Today, House Democrats made the decision to stand with left-wing special interests rather than with families and small businesses in their districts that will lose so much because of this national energy tax.  The American people will not forget this vote.”

Unfortunately, most Americans did not see, and will not see this Patriot and his efforts to save what is left of free enterprise, the Constitution, liberty and freedom.
